Abstract

The purpose of research - to determine the effectiveness of group sessions for smoking cessation in a sanatorium after treatment of tobacco dependence and telephone support for first month of smoking cessation. Patients (69 people) who have agreed to participate in a smoking cessation program, filled in nicotine dependence test (Fagerstrom test), quietionnares of smoking status, previous experience of tobacco quitting, conducted a medical examination. Duration of group sessions was 1,5 hours. 5 to 15 people were in one group. Patients had individually designed programs for increasing motivation to quit smoking, training in self-help when a desire to smoke, learning to cope with stress and anxiety, a complex of therapeutic exercises, physiotherapy, dietary therapy and activities. Results. On quit smoking day 55 people (79.7%) reduced the cigarettes smoked number, 8 patients (11.6%) refused to tobacco smoking. On day 3, 16 people did not smoked (23.2%), 14 days - 30 people (43.5%). In 6 months 25 of 51 (49.1%) did not smoke and 10 people (19.6%) reduced the number of cigarettes smoked, 15 patients did not respond to telephone calls (29.4%), one participant (1.9%) resumed smoking while taking alcohol. Thus, the study showed that the assistance in sanatorium to persons with tuberculosis and sarcoidosis, health professionals, who want to get rid of nicotine addiction is effective and allows to reach long-term quit smoking tobacco.
