Abstract

The aim of this work was to study the psychological characteristics of smoking patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. There were examined 145 patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (age of 18 to 56 years, 95 smokers and 45 non-smokers with TB), treated in the Saint Petersburg Research Institute of Phthisiopulmonology at Ministry of Health in 2013-2014. Inclusion criteria: persons 18-80 years, regularly smoking tobacco. Exclusion criteria were: mental illness and disorders, alcohol, and drug addiction. The study included smoking status determination [number of cigarettes per day, the duration of the smok- ing, the degree of nicotine dependence (Fagerstrom test), motivation to quit smoking (Levshin V.F.)], assessment of medical and social factors, psychological characteristics by multifactorial personal questionnaire «Adaptability». It is shown that smokers with tuberculosis had significantly more determined accentuation: asthenoneurotic (Hs), depressive (D) and psychopathic (Pd), psihoasteniya (Pt), schizoid (Sc), hypomania (Ma) and social introversion (Si) compared to non-smokers. Accentuations character was associated with a higher degree of nicotine dependence and withdrawal syndrome. Early onset of smoking was typical for patients with accentuation on scales psihoast- eniya, psychopathy, schizoid and hypomania.
